“UBORA” IN SWAHILI MEANS “EXCELLENCE”

Our Mission

As the go-to network for excellent Black communicators, our mission is to cultivate a widespread culture shift in the practice of communications, by elevating and empowering our members.

Our Vision

We envision a barrier-free industry where Black communicators can reach their full potential.

But Why?

Although unspoken, research has shown the result of conscious and unconscious bias; a brick ceiling that has limited the professional rise of many Black communicators. The public relations practice is still considered the “last of the lily-white professions,” with negative narratives against Black professionals propagandizing the ideal communicator as typically White. Until recently, hiring managers who have held these biases have never been challenged, yet they set the tone, agenda and definition of what equity and diversity is in many organizations.

UBORA NETWORK

By uplifting Black communicators, we will change the narrative, the culture and the concept of what it means to be Black in PR.
